Al Higginbotham was born in Plant City and has lived in Florida his entire life.He has been married for thirty-two years to Devon, and they have two grown children, Allen and Kaylon. Al serves the residents of District 4, representing them on the Hillsborough County Commission. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, for Hillsborough County. Al has been a tireless community leader actively involved in agricultural, political and faith-based causes. He is a passionate advocate on behalf of persons with disabilities. Al attended the University of Florida and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science specializing in South American Government. He founded Market Place Real Estate, a residential real estate brokerage in Orlando. In 1991, he sold the company and returned to Plant City with his family. Al suffered a spinal cord injury in 1995 leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Al’s book about his life experience, By Faith... I’m Still Standing was released in 2001. Al was elected Chairman of the Hillsborough County Republican Party in 2003 and under his leadership the local party tripled in membership and quadrupled in funds raised. The explosive growth laid the foundation for Al’s election as Chairman of the State Chairman’s Caucus for the Republican Party of Florida in 2005.
